FAQ Bunker Suspenders

What size should I order my Suspenders? Is there a Small/Medium/Large?

We make all of our Suspenders based on actual sizes and do not do general “Small/Medium/Large” sizing. This is because we’re creating the item from scratch and you’re paying good money for it; we want it to fit you right!

We have detailed instructions on how to measure yourself under the “Measurements” section of this site.

What is “PolyPro Webbing Reinforcement” and do I need it?

You might want Webbing Reinforcement if you carry a lot of tools in your pockets but it is not a requirement. PolyPro Webbing is a polypropylene material that is stitched to the back of the Suspenders.

For most customers, Webbing Reinforcement is not needed. If you intend to carry a lot of weight in your bunker pockets, the webbing might help prevent stretching of the suspenders over time.

Should I order “Adjustable” or “Fixed” Length Suspenders?

For most customers, we advise against Fixed Length Suspenders unless you’re very certain it’s what you want. This is because although the suspenders might fit your current pants, if your department replaces those with another style or brand, the fit can be totally different making the suspenders too long or short. Also, suspender sizing changes more significantly with weight gain or loss compared to other items.

For some people, this may not be an issue and skipping the buckles on the front can be much more comfortable and less bulky.

The Adjustable Suspenders will give you plus or minus 3″ from the measurement you provide. So for example, if you give us a Length of 42″, you’ll be able to adjust between 37-45″ with 42″ being the center holes in the range.

Where do people typically want their Stamping?

On “X” Style Suspenders, stamping can be done on shoulders. The amount of stamping that can be done here depends on the overall length of your suspenders. Usually customers either do not opt for stamping or they ask for basic stamping such as department initials or a badge number.

The biggest issue we see is people requesting too much stamping. It’s not that we’re not willing to do it but that at a certain point you will run out of “real estate” where the stamps will no longer physically fit. If this happens, we’ll contact you to try and work out a good solution.

How do I select the options for painting?

There are two options for painting; Primary Color and Outlining. The Primary Color will be the body of the letter/number. The Outlining will be as it sounds, the outer perimeter of the character. You don’t have to have a primary color to have the stamp outlined and vice versa. It’s entirely up to you.

The only mistake we commonly see is people who select a paint color that matches the leather color. For example, if you select Black leather and then select either a primary or outlined color as black. This is unnecessary and we’ll usually contact you to verify this wasn’t an accident.

What does the Crossover Strap do?

The Crossover Strap is a 9″ section of leather that holds the suspenders together where they pass over each other on your mid-to-upper back. This keeps them on your shoulders. We design our suspenders in such a way that the crossover allows the straps to slide against each other without binding. This makes movements in crouched or crawling positions easier and more comfortable. The crossover strap also fits flush enough that it won’t dig into your back when under your airpack.
